Static Division

Also known as the Display Division

To Display or Sail – The Choice is Yours !

Model Shipbuilding is one of the few hobbies today that is truly affordable. It can be an educational and very rewarding pastime, as simple or as complex as you wish to make it and can be enjoyed by all age groups.

There are literally as many different types and sizes of model boats as there are full size ones. Certainly enough to satisfy all tastes and interests!

Creating a static model allows the builder to accurately replicate the features and fittings of the original vessel. A finely built static model is not just a ship model; it is a work of art!

If you just love building boats without getting you feet wet, then this is the place for you.

Metro Marine Modellers (Static Division) Meets on the second Tuesday of every other month (January, March, May, September, November) at the Static Captain’s home at 18 McGrath Court in Scarborough.

At the Static Division meetings our members bring their current projects to show and discuss. It is an ideal forum for newcomers to see static models in detail and to get more information about the models themselves as well as knowledge on building techniques. Our members are always willing to help and guide.

New comers to the Hobby usually start by building from a kit. Local hobby shops carry different types and sizes of kits, all including the necessary parts and instructions. With the prevalence of the Internet today and on-line suppliers it is often the best source of available kits. After building from a kit the builder will get a sense of the enjoyment they got from the hobby and most switch to scratch built models where the builder creates all components of the model.

Our members exhibit their handwork at the Static Division meetingsas well as at many shows and demonstrations. See our Club Calendar for upcoming shows and events.
