Metro Marine Modellers Health and Safety Protocol Summer 2020 – May 29 2020
Who can attend Competitors should arrive alone, with the exception that they may bring along any necessary support person who agrees to comply with these rules. Attendance at club events is limited to persons who have signed up for the event at on the club web site at mertromarine.org. https://metromarine.org/event-sign-up/
Sign up early as the number of participants is capped for safety reasons. The present cap is FIVE competitors. This is the largest group permitted by law in Toronto parks. Signing up ensures we do not exceed five people and gives us a chance to add times and locations if demand warrants.
Whether to attend It is vital that sailors who are unwell with CV-19, have been exposed to someone who is or may be unwell with CV-19, or who have any symptoms of contagious illness, refrain from attending MMM events and indeed remain in isolation following the recommendations for the health authorities. We will be delighted to sail with you when the cause for concern is past.
Face coverings are strongly recommended. Maintain the minimum safe distance between people of two metres whether wearing a face covering or not.
Wash your hands frequently and do your best not to touch your face.
Handling equipment The virus SARS-CoV-2 and other pathogens are transferred by touch with contaminated surfaces. Protect yourself and others. Do not touch another person or their equipment.
Only the Officer of the Day (“OD”) or someone acting under their direction may touch the club equipment. Only one person may operate or ride in the mark boat. The members attending an event will appoint one of their number as OD.
Scoring – Scores will not be kept, to permit the OD to sail in the event.
Spacing – Remain at least two IOM or Soling lengths from all others at all times, whether stationary or in motion. The OD may designate spots for sailors to stand spaced apart from each other. Remain alone in your designated space from the warning signal of a race until your boat has completed or abandoned the race and reached the launch area and as much as possible at other times.
To even out the advantages and disadvantages of different vantage points the OD may circulate competitors among designated sailing stations between races. We recommend that competitors bring a chair to mark their place, and remain in their chair as much of the time as possible to preserve distancing.
Obey any marks or markers placed by the OD including those designating launch areas, boat stand areas and otherwise.
Information –The MMM may record your presence and contact information and share it with health authorities in case it is needed for contact tracing purposes.
Notice – A competitor who has reason to believe that they may have attended an event while infected with a communicable illness including the CV-19 virus shall promptly notify the Sail Captain.
Cradles and kit Place cradles at least three metres away from the launch and control areas and any walkways and at least three meters from each other.
Bear with us – These rules are provisional and likely to evolve as we learn more. It will take all of us in cooperation to allow us to sail. Please keep the Sail Captain, David Allsebrook sailcaptain@metromarine.org Phone: 416-568-2794, informed of your views on what works and what doesn’t, and keep monitoring the MMM web site for changes to this protocol and to the schedule.
